Sacred Disorientation

Lighted Path Devotional

Memory Verse:

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8 (ESV)

Reflection:

I once watched a little boy walking through a crowded market with his father.

He wasn’t looking ahead.

He wasn’t studying the road.

He wasn’t worried about the noise, the strangers, or the countless paths crossing in front of him.

He had only one assignment.

Hold his father’s hand.

His father, however, was watching everything. The traffic. The potholes. The motorcycles. The people. The safest route home.

That picture has stayed with me.

Many of us want God to show us the entire road before we’ll take the next step.

God often does the opposite.

He gives enough light for today and keeps tomorrow in His own hands.

It feels unsettling.

We call it uncertainty.

He calls it trust.

Abraham left home without an address.

Moses stood before a sea that refused to become a road until he obeyed.

The disciples left their fishing nets without knowing they would one day turn the world upside down.

Again and again, God seems comfortable leading people into places where certainty disappears and dependence begins.

That is sacred disorientation.

It is the moment when God gently removes your confidence in your own plans so that your confidence can rest in His presence.

We spend much of life asking, “Lord, where are You taking me?”

God is often asking something deeper.

“Will you still walk with Me if I don’t answer that yet?”

There is a strange freedom that comes when you stop demanding explanations from God.

You begin to realise that His presence is a better promise than a detailed itinerary.

After all, the Israelites were never given a map of the wilderness.

They were given a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night.

The destination mattered.

But the Presence mattered more.

Perhaps that is where you are today.

Nothing looks the way you expected.

The future seems blurry.

The next chapter hasn’t been written.

Don’t mistake the absence of clarity for the absence of God.

Sometimes He deliberately hides the road because He wants you to discover the Guide.

And once you’ve learned to trust the Guide, you’ll find that knowing every turn was never the greatest blessing.

Walking with Him was.

Application:

Stop waiting for God to reveal the next ten years. Be faithful with the next step He has already shown you. Clarity often follows obedience, not the other way around.

Prayer:

Father, forgive me for wanting certainty more than I want You. Teach me to trust Your voice when I cannot see the road ahead. Let Your presence become my confidence, Your Word my direction, and Your faithfulness my peace. Amen.

Deeper Thought:

God rarely gives His children a blueprint for life. He gives them Himself. And in the end, the Guide is infinitely better than the map.

A Word a Day Increases Your Faith a Day.
